Alex Vestal, of Cortez, placed fourth overall in his debut appearance at the Monster Energy Cup on Saturday night.
The 15-year-old Kawasaki rider finished in the middle of the pack in his first race at the University of Las Vegas-Nevada stadium, and followed it up with a third-place finish in the second race.
Vestal, who was selected for the invitation-only race, finished ninth in a field of 20 in the first of two Supermini races Saturday night at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas stadium. After the first lap, he was in ninth place, and he stayed there till the end.
In the second race, he got a good start, and was in fourth place after the first two laps. He moved up to third place by the end of the third lap, and held on despite a late charge by the eventual champion Jett Reynolds, who came from fifth to second place. Jace Kessler won the race, followed by Reynolds and Vestal.
Vestal is the son of John and Sandra Vestal, of Cortez.
