Adams State University will begin offering a Master of Arts degree in Humanities with an emphasis in public administration during the summer session, beginning June 3.

The 36-credit hour, online program is designed to help current or aspiring professionals in state or local government, as well as nonprofit organizations, to acquire appropriate credentials. The program may be completed in two calendar years, and its online format makes it convenient for working professionals.

“The Public Administration program resulted from meetings with local government officials, who expressed the need for advanced study in the field,” said Dr. Michael Mumper, who is coordinating the program.

Mumper is the instructor for Introduction to Public Administration, a 10-week online course. The course will prepare students for the program, as well as introduce them to graduate school and online learning. Additional coursework, offered beginning with the fall 2018 semester, will develop skills in budgeting, human resources, planning, and economic development. Five practicum courses will provide students with actual experiences in these areas, through projects and practical activities in a professional setting.

“We have made this affordable; tuition is about one-quarter that of our nearest priced competitor,” Mumper said.
