Deb Campbell has big plans for her building on 25 N. Beech St. in Cortez.
Her vision is a building filled with artists, all creating masterpieces.
And so far, she has eight artists inside the space creating everything from fiber art, silver jewelry to oil paintings, after opening up the building to artist on Nov. 1.
“It’s primarily studio space for artists they can rent on a monthly basis,” Campbell said.
Campbell is also hoping the space, called The Collaborative, will worked as a place for education and community workshops and classes.
“In a way, it’s a little bit of an incubator space,” she said.
The Collaborative is in its very early stages, and Campbell is hoping it will eventually be a great destination place. A place for events and music.
“The acoustics in here are wonderful,” she said.
Campbell is hoping to get at least 12 more artists into the space.
“Right now the studio is open to working artists.
In the light of the late-morning sun, painter Ed Singer, put some touches on a painting.
He has been painting for 40 years and said The Collaborative is a nice fit for him.
“It’s nice and it’s very affordable,” he said. “In this day and age, when art isn’t moving (low cost rent) makes huge difference,” he said.
