A sculpture of an Anasazi climbing a cliff greets visitors at the Mesa Verde National Park Visitor and Research Center. The Center is planning to open in November, with a grand opening set for May.
An Anasazi woman with corn sculpture sits at the entrance of the Visitor Center.
The front of the Visitor Center lines up with Point Lookout at the park.
The Visitor Center building is completed, while landscaping is still underway. Exhibits will be set up in the next few weeks before the Center opens.
Park Superintendent Cliff Spencer points out a window into one of the research rooms where visitors will be able to watch archaeologists looking at artifacts.
The exhibit area spans about 6,000 square feet with the other 18,000 square feet of building for museum collections and archives. The park has about 3 million artifacts that will be moved into the research part of the Center.
