GOLDEN, Colo. (AP) Officials in a Colorado city are trying to reach a teenage boy who fell into an old mine shaft while climbing in the area.
Golden Fire Department spokeswoman Karlyn Tilley says the teen has been talking to rescuers and seems to be alert.
She says he told the rescuers that his leg is injured but reported no other severe injuries. Tilley said he may have fallen as far as 300 feet down.
She says the boy was climbing with several other teenage friends when his rope snapped. She didn't know his exact age.
Video from the scene shows rescuers using ropes to rappel down into the mine shaft.
Tilley says the site is southeast of the city of Golden, which is about 15 miles (24.14 kilometers) west of Denver.
