The Bureau of Land Management Tres Rios Field Office has debuted an interactive “travel management” map that features information on roads and trails in BLM areas of Montezuma County, such as Phil’s World.
Tres Rios Field Office Manager Connie Clementson told Montezuma County Ccommissioners at their meeting Monday that the BLM is looking to gather input on how and why people are using the trails and roads, as well as which routes are most important. The information will be used to develop a regional travel management plan for the Tres Rios field office area that will take several years, Clementson said.
“We’re hoping that people can give us some really great comments,” she said.
Though the Tres Rios office covers an eight-county area of southwest Colorado, the map only covers routes in Montezuma County. Clementson said they will test the Montezuma map for several months before rolling out maps for other Tres Rios office areas. Next up is a similar map of La Plata and Archuleta counties, followed by a map of San Juan County, then a map of Dolores and San Miguel counties, she said.
People can use the interactive map to look at trail routes and provide feedback, either through an online form or by mailing a form to the field office.
“I think this will be a transparent process,” Clementson said.
