Among the many hurdles that the Dolores Project must overcome, along with prying funds out of Washington, is the matter of having water rights to make the project feasible. At present, the project calls for reaching an agreement with Montezuma Valley Irrigation for some of their water rights on the river.

Without some agreement on this crucial matter, the project would be stymied. Also being discussed currently but not too openly is concern by some individuals that the continued long delays in constructing the Dolores Project is hampering current needs for expansion of the rural water system.

Events in Washington are going to prove that all politicians are alike, which is the point we have tried to make for many years here as we take pot shots at all who get into our sights.

A lot of hunters may be in for some disappointment this season as they go out intending to fill the freezer with meat this fall. The bow hunters report fewer game seen and they usually get a good look at prospects for the later gun hunting. Of course, the reports of poachers may have made the animals more shy this fall than in previous years when there isn't much shooting till season starts.

That food shortage thing is interesting because this country for the first time is really becoming engaged in competing on a world-wide basis for food. Over past decades, we might find out about a famine in some far distant country long after it all started, and then we might send some of our surplus food to them, often without cost. But it's different when they come in with cash and drive the price up while shortening our supply for us.
