Tanner Desrosiers (M-CHS)
Desrosiers anchored the Panthers defense all season. On Friday, he finished with 17 total tackles to end the season tied for first in Class 2A with 119 tackles, and led 2A with 73 solo tackles.
Jalen Balderrama (Dolores)
Balderrama shined against Ignacio on Friday, connecting on 16-of-25 passes for 195 yards and two touchdowns. Balderrama eclipsed the 1,000 yards passing mark, and his 1,021 yards through the air this season led the Southern Peaks league.
Gatlin Brothers (Dove Creek)
Scott Gatlin opened Friday’s game against Mancos with a 64-yard touchdown rush, and for the game, he ran for 220 yards and six (yes, six) touchdowns.
Older brother Spencer wreaked havoc on defense, racking up 15 total tackles including two quarterback sacks.
Drew Morgan (Mancos)
Morgan provided highlight plays against Dove Creek by scoring on two fumble recoveries – from 55 yards out in the second quarter and 67 yards out in the third quarter. Morgan also rushed for 85 yards and a touchdown and passed for 147 yards and two scores.

Plewe a finalist for state Wendy’s Heisman Award
Montezuma-Cortez senior Kiselya Plewe has been named a state finalist for Wendy’s High School Heisman Award
Ten male and 10 female finalists per state were recognized and awarded a bronze medal, Heisman State Finalist patch and a $25 Wendy’s gift card.
One male and one female winner from each state will be announced on Nov. 9, and they will win a silver medal, Heisman State Winner patch, $50 Wendy’s gift card, and a $1,000 donation will be made to their high school.
Plewe finished last semester with a 4.0 GPA and placed fourth in the 2015 Class 4A girls golf state tournament.
Adaptive Sports Association looking for volunteers
Adaptive Sports Association (ASA), a nonprofit sports and recreation outfitter for people with disabilities, needs volunteers to teach ski and snowboard lessons.
No experience is necessary, but volunteers must be at least intermediate skiers or snowboarders.
Training is free and volunteers earn discounted skiing at Purgatory. Orientations are held Nov. 12 and 17 (choose 1) at the Durango Rec Center. Returning volunteers meet 6-7 p.m.. New volunteers meet 7-8 p.m.
