Mesa Verde Writers Conference organizers are seeking more experienced and aspiring writers to register for the upcoming conference, which is half full and set to start in the first half July.

The conference, which is in its third year, will be held at Mancos Commons, 135 Grand Ave., from July 9 through July 11.

“Immerse yourself in the artsy community of Mancos as you work with award-winning writers,” organizers said. “Listen to your inner voice, take risks and break from routine. This is a generative conference and work you create may become a finished story, personal essay, novel or poem.”

“Tuition” for the conference is $425 and includes everything, even breakfast and lunch each day. Faculty includes January Gill O’Neil, associate professor at Salem State University, author and poet; Lisa C. Taylor, poet and author; Angie Hodapp, director of literacy development at Nelson Literary Agency and author and Mark Stevens, fiction author.

“No workshops run concurrently so everyone can attend everything,” Taylor told The Journal. “We have wonderful faculty and I'm sure it will be a validating and educational event for both experienced and aspiring writers.”

This year’s workshops will include Tiny Miracles and Everyday Wonders: A Writing Workshop; The Poem Under the Poem: the Practice of Revision; Themes, Motifs and Metaphors: Spinning the Invisible Web; Tone, Mood and Atmosphere: Casting the Spell of Place; Genre Fluidity in Creative Work and Write What You Don’t Know.

The first day of the conference will include a public reading and kickoff at Fenceline Cider, 141 S. Main St. in Mancos.

Those who wish to learn more about the event and faculty or wish to register can do so on the conference website at www.mesaverdewriters.org. Questions can be directed to mesaverdewriters@gmail.com.
