Two seriously injured in head-on crash south of Durango

Pickup hits car Friday night on Highway 550 near New Mexico line

A man and a woman were taken to Mercy Regional Medical Center, one with life-threatening injuries and one with serious injuries, after a head-on collision on U.S. Highway 550 just north of the New Mexico line on Friday night.

Shasta Alleman, 30, was taken to Mercy with life-threatening injuries, and then transferred to another hospital. Alva Radcliff, 32, was taken to Mercy with serious injuries, said Colorado State Patrol Sgt. Blake White. Hometowns for Alleman and Radcliff were not available to White on Sunday.

White said the Nissan Altima driven by Alleman with Radcliff as a passenger was southbound when it was hit head-on by a Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by Michael Snook, 47, of Durango.

Snook’s pickup was northbound, and he was driving in the southbound lane, White said.

White said his summary of the incident did not state whether citations were issued at the scene, but he said alcohol and marijuana use are suspected as a contributing factor.

Lindsay Radford, a spokeswoman with Mercy, said Radcliff was in stable condition at Mercy.

Alleman was transferred from Mercy to another hospital, Radford said.
