The month of April will be a month of changes for local newspaper readers.
To start, The Dolores Star will be published on Thursdays instead of the current Fridays. So, starting April 4, look for the Star in your mail, or on your porch or in the racks on Thursdays instead of Friday.
This means that all deadlines will move up one day.
To get your letters and calendar items in the Star, you will need to submit that information no later than noon on Tuesday for publication in Thursday's paper.
If you want to get information in the classified section of the Star, call 565-8527 no later than Wednesday at noon for Thursday publication.
The publication day change announcement was made last week, along with many other changes in the local newspaper business. The changes were announced last Thursday by Cortez Journal Publisher Suzy Meyer and Durango Herald Publisher Richard Ballantine. Parent company Ballantine Communications Inc., owns the Herald, the Journal, the Star, The Mancos Times, Directory Plus and Buzztown.com.
Along with the change for the Star, the Cortez Journal will only be published twice a week. Instead of a Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday schedule, the paper will move to a Tuesday, Friday schedule.
After that announcement, the layoffs of eight people was announced at the Journal and three people at the Herald.
Also starting next month, the editor of the Star, Shannon Livick, will also be the editor of the Mancos Times, which publishes weekly on Wednesday.
