To The Journal:
The animals and staff at the Cortez Animal Shelter would like to thank the following businesses and individuals for participating and sponsoring dogs in the “12 Strays of Christmas” annual fundraiser: Pet Pals Cindy Barnhouse, Jack & Janelle’s country kitchen, Slavens True Value, Bru’s house of color, Pioneer Printing, Rimco, Envy Salon, Mr. Concrete, Abundant Life Healthfood Store, Carol Wonacott, P&D Grocery, Cox Conoco, Pizza Hut, Scooter, Kelly, Toto, and Bonnie, and Blondie’s Trophy Room.
The dogs thoroughly enjoyed getting dressed up and going walking downtown every day. When it was time to get dressed, their eyes would light up with glee.
Most of the dogs learned more manners while walking, and it got them out of the shelter for an hour every day. The dogs that took part in the walking were Concho, Keegan, Tia, Spot, Stubby, Stella, Patty, Abby, Haze, Thumper, Bella and Fiona. All of them were adopted during the holidays, making the “12 Strays of Christmas” a huge success. Quite a few cats and other dogs were also adopted during the holidays. The shelter hopes that it raised awareness in the community about the animals at the shelter and that all animals that are in shelters aren’t “bad.”
