A man suspected of attempting to rob a Subway sandwich shop Wednesday evening on north Main Avenue – an incident that sparked an hourslong search in north Durango – remained on the loose Thursday.
The Durango Police Department said it has identified a suspect, but it did not release the man’s name Thursday morning. No arrests had been made as of 11 a.m., and police are still looking for the suspect.
The man walked into the Subway at 2101 Main Ave. around 9:55 p.m. and demanded money from an employee, said Police Chief Kamran Afzal. While the man did not brandish a weapon, Afzal said he claimed to be armed.
Police enlisted the help of a canine to search for the man, but the dog lost a scent, Afzal said. Exactly how long officers searched was unclear, Afzal said. He said officers were able to obtain identifying information and believe they have identified a suspect.
He said police have no reason to believe the public is at any risk.
The Subway on Main Avenue could not be reached for comment Thursday morning.
