It’s hard to stay at the top, especially with the rest of the state in hot pursuit.
That’s what makes Micah Rudosky’s three-peat at the Colorado PGA Championship all the more impressive.
The Conquistador Golf Course professional earned another trip to the next level of qualification, the PGA Professional Championships at Fields Ranch in Frisco, Texas, April 28 – May 1. A top-20 finish in the Lone Star State next spring would catapult Rudosky back to the PGA Championships for the second time in his career.
In the meantime, the multi-qualifier for the Senior PGA Championship, U.S. Senior Open and PGA Championships can celebrate adding another trophy to his collection, having held off a stern challenge down the stretch to post a closing score of 11 under to win the event at River Valley Ranch in Carbondale by two strokes.
Rudosky found himself trailing Colorado National Golf Club’s Matt Schalk with nine holes to play, but closed with a 33 to claim a lead that he had owned for most of the 54-hole tournament. Birdies on the 16th and 17th holes provided the margin he would need to keep all pursuers at bay.
The first two rounds helped Rudosky sit in prime position for another qualifying effort – as the top nine golfers from the Colorado section advance to join the PGA Professional Championships next spring.
Rudosky posted the low round of the tournament with a five-under opening round of 67 to lead by one stroke after 18 holes. A second-round 69 expanded his lead to two shots heading into the decisive third round – where his closing 69 made him the only competitor to break 70 in each of the three rounds.
With the win, Rudosky is the fourth Colorado PGA professional to ever accomplish the three-peat, and now he can turn his focus to continued success in the other PGA qualifying events, with the hopes of another busy 2024 season of PGA and Senior PGA majors on the horizon.
