AZTEC – It was a busy weekend for dirt track racing in both northwest New Mexico and Southwest Colorado as Kart Kanyon and Fairgrounds Speedway both featured some of the top drivers in the Four Corners.
Here’s a recap of the weekend action in auto racing.
Nearly 40 drivers checked into a busy night of racing at Kart Kanyon Speedway on Saturday in Aztec.
Mark Rodgers would take the win in the Stock Class, followed by Sarah McDowell, Abby Harpole, Jordan Hockenhull and Bowyer Carley.
Khloé Tenski did everything right on the track to win the Youth Division featured event, but ended up not going to tech, resulting in a disqualification. The win went win to Barrett Tenski, followed by Brayton Carley, Brendan McLaughlin, Wyatt Calcote and Griffyn Bandy.
Bowyer Carley took the win in the Super Stock Class, followed by Bob Harter, Abby Harpole, Beau Blakley and Jacob Lewis.
In the Super Stock Dash, Jarrod Bandy crossed the wire first, while Abby Harpole took home first prize in the Stock Class Dash winner was Abby Harpole.
The final weekend of the racing season at Fairgrounds Speedway brought out some of the region’s top dirt car drivers with spectacular programs on Friday and Saturday night.
Hunter Ferrell took the win Friday night in the Hobby Stock Division, followed by Kyler Duggins, John Thomas, Richard Killingbeck and Chad Nelson.

Shane DeVilbiss took the checkered flag in the Dwarf/Modlite Division Friday night, followed by Rafe O’Brien, Clay Goben, Blaine Olson and Cauy Ludwig. Jayden Smalls won in the Youth Sport Compact class, followed by Evan Ray, Jaden Kibel and Alexis Lewis.
In the sport mod class, it was the Spanglers and the Greens battling it out for the top four positions with Aaron Spangler winning his 10th race of the year. He was followed by Camron Spangler, Rayce Green, Chad Green and Waylon Hale.
Allen Bradley found victory lane Friday night in the stock car division, followed by Steffan Carey, Dakota Kibel, Traci Bradley and Darell Cordary.
Fairgrounds Speedway put on first-time winner dashes in four divisions who have never won a race. Alex Sutherlin won in the Northern SportMods, Abbi Barthel won in the Sport Compacts, Dakota Kibel won in the Stock Cars. and Tim Galloway won in the Hobby Stocks.
Saturday’s closing night program was a chance for drivers to get in a final win before the end of the season.
Kyler Duggins found the checkered flag in the Hobby Stock Division, followed by John Thomas, Richard Killingbeck, Chad Nelson and Hunter Ferrell.
Beau Hunter crossed the finish line first in the Sport Compact division followed by his rival Katie Barthel, Colton Petersen, Jesse Stuckman and Abbi Barthel. Meantime, Shane DeVilbiss took out the broom to sweep the weekend in the Dwarf/Modlite Division, followed by Rafe O’Brien, Blaine Olson, Cauy Ludwig and James Goben.
Glen Holmes took the win in the Non-Wing Micro Sprints, followed by Kasyn Matthews and Jerry Campbell.
Much like Friday night, it was the Spanglers vs. the Greens for the top four spots in the sport mod class, with Camron Spangler coming out on top for his ninth win of the season followed by Aaron Spangler. The father/son duo have finished first and second eight times this season.
Rayce Green was third, ahead of Chad Green and Alex Sutherlin.
Steffan Carey took the Stock Cars win, followed by Ron Brewer, Darell Cordary, Tom Gallagher and Traci Bradley.
Aztec Speedway will be in action Friday and Saturday night.
