I am a U.S. Navy veteran who served as a hospital corpsman. I am proud of what Congresswoman Lauren Boebert is doing for our military. Boebert’s recent vote for the 2023 National Defense Authorization Act provides much needed benefits for our servicemembers and their families.
Some of the bill highlights include:
• 4.6 % pay raise, $70 million for Impact Aid for military children with disabilities.
• Increases the Basic Need Allowance from 130% of the federal poverty line to 150% and allows the secretary of defense to allow 200% when appropriate.
• The bill will start a pilot program to reimburse military families for certain child care costs related to a permanent change of station.
• Establishes a comprehensive initiative for brain health with the Warfare Brain Health Initiative.
Boebert introduced the Pueblo Jobs Act, which passed the House with bipartisan support as part of the National Defense Authorization Act. Pueblo Jobs Act will support at least 1,000 jobs in Pueblo as the Pueblo Chemical Depot finishes its closure process. She worked closely with PuebloPlex as well as Sens. John Hickenlooper and Michael Bennet throughout the process.
Boebert’s work on the Congressional Oversight Committee has improved the transparency of the federal agencies’ use of telework policies. This lack of transparency has caused issues. Many constituents of the 3rd Congressional District have complained about delays in getting tax returns, passport processing and veteran benefits. There is now an 18-month backlog for our veterans getting their benefits. Boebert is working to get the veterans their benefits in a timely manner.
