Plewe leads golf team through strong wind

Plewe finishes as medalist

In their second meet of the season, the Dolores golf team was again tasked with playing through poor weather conditions.

But once again, they made it work.

Playing at Cobble Creek in Montrose last Tuesday, the Lady Bears played through cold temperatures and gusts of wind up to 40 mph.

“The girls hung in there,” said head coach Jeff Carr. “I mean, it was really bad. There’s no way anyone would have played if they didn’t have to.”

But led by Montezuma-Cortez senior Kiselya Plewe – who shot an 81 and finished as medalist – the Lady Bears finished in second place out of nine competing schools.

After shooting a personal best last week, Abigail Smith finished two strokes better at 100, Keyana Matteson finished with a 129, and Shundiin Kauffman and Kaylee Bowie played in a scramble.

Another bright spot for the Lady Bears was finishing ahead of Eagle Valley. Eagle Valley beat the Bears in their first meet at Adobe Creek Golf Course in Fruita to secure first place, so outshooting them on Tuesday was a sign of improvement.

The team now has a short break before returning to action in its home meet at Conquistador Golf Course in Cortez, on Tuesday, April 5.
