Construction on Cedar Street in Cortez started Tuesday, according to the city of Cortez’s website.

“The project consists of road reconstruction, a new sewer system, and new water lines,” the website said.

Candelaria Construction is handling the improvement project. Construction will run from June until October. The project will stage on South Baker Avenue and on several lots of Chisholm Place with permission from the owner.

Complete road closures are possible, so residents in the area will need to use Jarrett Avenue or Verdu Vu Drive for access. “Road Closed” signs signal a complete road closure, while “Road Closed to Thru Traffic” signs signal that residents will still be able to access their homes, the website said.

Residents will receive notices or be contacted when construction is near their home, especially as sewers and water lines are replaced. The sewer replacement will start near Detroit Avenue, then move north.

If residents have questions, they can contact Candelaria Construction, the city of Cortez Service Center, or the Cortez Sanitation District. Those numbers can be found on their website.
