An individual suspected of making threats against area schools was identified and taken into custody Monday night.

Farmington Police Department and administrators from Kirtland Central High School and Farmington High School were made aware of school threats circulating on social media Monday.

A Facebook post from FPD at 8:53 p.m. announced they were aware of the threats and FPD and Navajo Police Department were actively investigating.

The post said “the nature of the threats warranted an increased law enforcement presence in and around the schools” Tuesday.

At 9:40 p.m. Monday, the post was updated to announce that a suspect was identified and had been taken into police custody.

According to FPD spokesperson Shanice Gonzales, with the suspect in custody police, presence in on school campuses was not increased today.

The suspect’s identity has not been released. This is an active investigation, and details will be released as they become available.

FPD’s post thanked the public for their ongoing vigilance and reporting of suspicious activity. Anyone with information on this incident or future school threats is asked to call nonemergency dispatch at (505) 334-6622.
