Lindbergh Andrew Alonzo, 42, and Alexis Marie Alonzo, 28, who were arrested on Oct. 21, 2022, on suspicion of felony child abuse, appeared for a pretrial conference hearing Mondain 11th Judicial District Court.
Deputy District Attorney Dustin O’Brien said a charge of third-degree child abuse of another female child has been filed against the couple.
After their October arrest, Lindbergh and Alexis Alonzo were held at the San Juan County Adult Detention Center on charges of first-degree abuse of a child resulting in great bodily harm. Lindbergh Alonzo also was charged with tampering with evidence.
Chief Deputy District Attorney Dustin O’Brien stated that four children, ages 16, 12, 5 and 3, were removed from the home.
The Flora Vista couple’s arrest in October came nearly a month after the children were removed from the home, the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
At Monday’s hearing, Alexis Alonzo’s attorney, Lisa Torraco from Albuquerque, caused a delay in court proceedings while juggling various video court appearances. Judge Daylene Marsh moved on to the Lindbergh Alonzo case.
Heather LeBlanc, Lindbergh Alonzo’s attorney from Albuquerque, joined the proceeding via video conference from her vehicle, using audio only, and stated that she was on her way to pick up a sick child.
“We do not practice law from a vehicle during video court proceedings,” Marsh said. LeBlanc apologized, stating that she is a single mother and the father is not permitted to pick up their child.
LeBlanc rejoined the video court proceeding after a recess and apologized to Marsh again.
“This is going to be the one time I’m going to make an exception because I’m really strict about this,” Marsh said before allowing the proceeding to continue.
O’Brien said Alexis Alonzo is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing for the new child abuse charges at 2:30 p.m. April 11 in Courtroom 2 of Aztec District Court.
Lindbergh Alonzo is scheduled to appear on the same charges at 10 a.m. April 13 at the same venue.
O’Brien said both have been released from custody on conditional release with stipulations of no contact with their children.
