Chip Thomas, also known by his artist name Jetsonorama, stood atop a ladder along U.S. Highway 160 just west of the Mancos stoplight last week to install one of his large photo murals.
The work features black-and-white photos of bison taken of the Ute Mountain Ute herd off Colorado Highway 184.
The bison mural is the organization's second public art project to come to fruition this year after the installation of artist Veryl Goodnight’s “Valley Mascots,” which hangs on the side of the Mancos Fire Department building on Main Street.
The two-sided mural is on their building at U.S. 160 and Monte Street in Mancos. A plan to install a QR code on the surrounding fence will allow visitors to learn more about the importance of bison to the Ute tribes of Colorado.
