Three injured in collision on Colorado 184 near Mancos

Woman and child hospitalized, Sheriff’s Office says

Three people were injured Friday morning when two vehicles collided on Colorado Highway 184, according to the Montezuma County Sheriff’s Office.

A woman, age 32, and her child were taken to hospital with serious injuries, Sheriff Steven Nowlin said.

The second driver, a 55-year-old man, suffered less serious injuries. He received a court summons, but possible charges were not available, said Master Trooper Gary Cutler of the Colorado State Patrol.

The woman’s vehicle rolled over after the initial collision, Cutler said. The infant was secured in a child’s car seat, Nowlin said.

The crash occurred about 11:10 a.m., Cutler said, and traffic was limited to a single, alternating lane of traffic until the highway was fully reopened at 11:58 a.m. Additional details about the collision were not immediately available.

The Mancos Fire Department, Montezuma County Sheriff’s Office and Colorado State Patrol responded to the scene, in the 35600 block of Colorado 184 near Puett and Summit reservoirs.

Jim Spratlin, of the Montezuma County Office of Emergency Management, announced at noon that the highway had reopened.

He asked drivers to “use caution and drive defensively“ as the Labor Day weekend got underway.
