Lady Bears down Telluride

Nicole Kibel scores 18 points in 67-32 win

Coming off four straight losses, the Dolores High School girls basketball team got back to its winning ways against Telluride on Feb. 6.

Playing in front of an excited home crowd, the Lady Bears pulled ahead early and never looked back, winning 67-32 and improving to 5-9 on the season.

"The girls played really well," said Dolores head coach Larry Schwartz. "I'm pretty pleased with how the girls are playing right now and how they're coming along."

The Lady Bears led 19-8 after the first quarter and 33-17 at halftime. The Lady Bears continued to pour it on in the second half, outscoring Telluride 34-15 over the final 16 minutes.

Dolores junior Nicole Kibel led the Bears in scoring with 18 points and sophomore Madi Archuleta scored 11.

Senior Jessica Schliesser chalked up nine points, 11 rebounds and three assists.

Schwartz said that his team's offensive performance was one of its finest of the year.

"The girls are really coming along on their offense," said the head coach.

"They are doing a good job getting the ball inside and the post players are doing a good job of finding the guards once they spot up."

Next up for the Lady Bears will be a home matchup against Ouray on Feb. 13 and a road matchup against Ridgway on Feb. 14.

"These next few games are important and I'm looking forward to seeing how we stack up against two of the tougher teams in our league," Schwartz said.
