Mancos Town Board to meet tonight

Board members to discuss 2015 work plan, marshal's review

The Town of Mancos Board of Trustees will meet Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Town Hall, 117 N. Main St.

Board members are expected to discuss appointments to the tree board and the year-end reports from town departments.

The year-end report for the Mancos Town Marshal showed that the number of dispatched logged activities rose 35 percent for the three law enforcement officers in the department.

The number of traffic citations in Mancos increased to 151 issued in 2014, up 2.7 percent from 2013. The number of arrests in Mancos in 2014 numbered 57, up 103.6 percent from 2013. The number of incident reports in 2014 was 125, up 66.7 percent, according to Town Marshal John Cox.

"If we continue to experience increases in arrests, investigations and routine calls for service, at some point our staffing level must be increased to handle the additional work load. The town is not well served by exhausted law enforcement personnel, and officer safety is compromised when this occurs," Cox wrote.

Cox said that covering the town 24 hours a day with three marshals is doable, but if one is sick or at training, it's rough.

Cox said he spent up to 22 hours straight in uniform in 2014.

The board also is expected to discuss work plans for 2015.
