‘Parents, families need’ Ascent

Ascent Classical Academy of Durango has my endorsement for approval and opening in Durango School District 9-R. Families with children who are currently not enrolled in 9-R schools want this option for schooling in a classroom setting. Many Ascent-supporting families have several children who are not in 9-R schools but they would attend ACAD.

I know parents who are afraid to speak out in their support for Ascent because they fear that their children will be retaliated against academically, socially and emotionally in 9-R classrooms because of 9-R teachers, the teachers union and La Plata Democratic Party’s open hostility and angst toward ACAD. We feel that there is no chance Ascent will get a fair review by our 9-R school board.

Many children have no other option than to attend 9-R elementary schools, Miller Middle, Escalante Middle and Durango High School. They are wait-listed for every private and charter school in Durango and still have no option other than to attend 9-R schools because these families lack the funds or there is simply no room for more students in the private-school settings.

Parents, families and children in 9-R need ACAD. We want this school to open in fall 2023. We have many reasons for supporting this school. To the 9-R board: Please act in the interest of families and children who support Ascent. Many support our community schools through tax dollars, yet refuse to utilize 9-R schools unless Ascent opens.
