Bulldogs focus on Sanford for Parents Night

Baughman not looking ahead to No. 4 Sargent

After a week off because of a Del Norte forfeit, the Dove Creek Bulldogs (5-1) didn’t scheme for the Sanford Indians (2-5), whom they host on Friday for Parents Night.

“We didn’t focus on any particular team or tendency,” said head coach Shane Baughman. “We just focus on what we do. We focused on doing our stuff and getting better at our individual positions.”

To prepare, the Bulldogs stressed fundamentals like tackling, catching and blocking, but also emphasized creating turnovers defensively.

Dove Creek is ranked No. 7 in the state, and next week the Bulldogs host No. 4 Sargent.

As if the matchup weren’t significant enough, it’s also the Bulldogs’ Homecoming game.

But for now, Baughman is keeping his team focused on Sanford.

“We talked about it all last week and again this week,” he said. “To not look ahead, because as soon as you do that, a team will sneak up on you.”

“Next week we’ll have plenty of time to get ready for Sargent,” he said. “But this week we’re focused on Sanford.”
