There are so many service and voting districts in Montezuma County, residents are not always clear which one they reside in.
Now that redistricting has adjusted districts for the Colorado Legislature, there is another layer of uncertainty.
To help, the Montezuma County GIS and Mapping Department has created an interactive map of the various district, precincts and voter boundaries.
Just type in your address to find out which district you live in, including house, senate, county commission, fire, school, sanitation, cemetery, water, soil conservation and more. Check boxes to add map layers showing different district boundaries.
A key redistricting change at the state level divides Montezuma County into two separate House Districts.
Now the northwestern part of Montezuma County is part of the 58th District along with Dolores, San Miguel, Hinsdale, Montrose, Ouray, Gunnison counties and part of Delta. The district is represented by Republican Marc Catlin.
The rest of the county goes over to the 59th District, which includes Montezuma, La Plata, San Juan and Archuleta Counties. The district is represented by Democrat Barbara McLachlan.
Prior to redistricting, all of Montezuma County was part of Catlin’s District.
The redistricting also created changes to precinct boundaries used during the political party caucuses and primary election.
The interactive maps can be found on the Montezuma County website under the elections department. Click on the “content” tab to bring up the map layer options.
