The second race in the Zia Taqueria Cyclocross Series, which took place Saturday in Cortez, saw different bikers claim the open division titles.

The course in Cortez featured a sand pit, steep hills and turns through through a BMX track. Fort Lewis College rider Natalie Quinn and Kolben Preble of Segment 28, however, handled the obstacles the best to win the open division races.

On Saturday, the third race in the series will take place at Durango Mesa with its raw terrain, longer paved section and maybe just one more spiral of doom. The races will begin at 11 a.m. with the Open Women, B Men, 50-plus Men and Junior 14-and-under divisions competing.

At noon, the Open Men and 35-plus men will race.

On Wednesday, there will also be cyclocross practices at the FLC Stadium, starting and finishing on the track, at noon and then 4:30 p.m. for FLC and Devo riders ahead of the series’ final races.

The fourth and fifth races in the series will take place Nov. 20 and 21 at Fort Lewis’ Ray Denison Memorial Field. There won’t be race-day registration so competitors will need to register by midnight Friday at https://bit.ly/30j6KBM
