Friday, April 3

12:11 a.m. An officer was contacted by the local movie theater regarding a person asleep that staff could not wake up. When the officer arrived, it was discovered that the person was very intoxicated and had an outstanding warrant. He was transported to the jail.

Saturday, April 4

11:27 a.m. Officers were dispatched to a local marijuana store in the 300 block of E. Main Street for a report of theft. When the officers arrived, the suspect was standing in the lobby. Employees told the officer that the man asked to see two containers of marijuana and picked them both up and attempted to walk out. He was stopped by another customer. When the officer asked the man why he tried to take the marijuana he said, “I’m doing it for the country and the good of the community.” The officer suspected the man was under the influence of an unknown drug. The marijuana was estimated to cost about $500 and the man was arrested for suspicion of shoplifting.

6:45 p.m. A man was arrested after an altercation at the Cortez City Park for suspected third-degree assault.

11:40 p.m. An officer observed two people dancing in the band stage of the Parque de Vida and stopped to tell them the park was closed. The woman started yelling at the officer and refused to leave. She was arrested and alcohol and a methamphetamine glass pipe was found in her bag.

Monday, April 6

8:17 a.m. A man was arrested after he was spotted driving a older model white Ford pickup that had been reported stolen. When the officer stopped the man in the parking lot of Walmart, he took off running. Officers eventually caught up to the man near the Holiday Inn.

Tuesday, April 7

7:52 p.m. A traffic sign reading “Utility Work Ahead” was reported missing.
