Friday, Sept. 3

8:34 a.m. A man was cited for unsafe backing after pulling out of a driveway and colliding with a vehicle in the 1200 block of South Chestnut Street.

9:04 a.m. A woman visited the Cortez Police Department, 608 N. Park St., to report a lost or stolen credit card with a pending $2,000 charge from Walmart, 1835 E. Main St., An officer found a man and woman charged $2,024 on her card but could not identify them because they wore COVID-19 masks.

1:39 p.m. A man was arrested on two warrants in the 10 block of North Harrison Street.

2:37 p.m. A woman was cited for trespassing at Walmart, 1835 E. Main St., and issued an indefinite trespass notice.

7:29 p.m. A man was cited from DUI-drugs, reckless driving, operating an uninsured vehicle and driving without a license after he allegedly drove his Pontiac G6 through a red light and collided with a Toyota Corolla vehicle at Chestnut and Main streets.

Saturday, Sept. 4

5:52 a.m. A man who was pulled over in the 600 block of N. State St. was arrested on suspicion of DUI, DUI per se and an expired registration. Another officer took custody of a handgun and ammunition found in the vehicle, and asked the passenger, who was asleep and apparently intoxicated, to leave the vehicle. Empty beer bottles were found in the vehicle.

9:16 a.m. After a disturbance at La Mesa RV Park, in the 2300 block of East Main Street, a man was asked to leave the property. After he refused, he was arrested on suspicion of third-degree trespass, and his handgun was seized because the man had been convicted of a felony. Evidence later showed the felony charge had been dismissed.

11:55 a.m. After a report that six woman were fighting near the duck pond in Parque de Vida, an officer found a damaged cellphone , returned it to its owner and arrested a woman on a warrant. The woman also was cited for three counts of assaulting a police officer.

12:18 p.m. An employee at The Doobie Sisters, 695 North Broadway, reported that a customer’s car had been stolen from the parking lot. An investigation showed the customer’s friend had left in his car without permission because he was too long in the store, and he wanted to go home to Arizona.

1:01 p.m. A man was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence, third-degree assault and menacing case in the 600 block of East Montezuma Ave. Meth pipes and a small baggie of meth were seized, possibly leading to a drug possession charge.

2:11 p.m. An intoxicated man was arrested on suspicion of criminal impersonation, second-degree criminal trespass, attempted second-degree criminal trespass and disorderly conduct after he allegedly tried to enter cars in Denney Lake Park, 2825 E. Main St. Later, he was connected to a report of a stolen car at The Doobie Sisters marijuana store.

9:05 p.m. An intoxicated woman was arrested at an apartment in the 800 block of South Chestnut Street for violating a protection order.

Sunday, Sept. 5

1:30 a.m. An officer investigating a report of graffiti at Cortez Milling, 309 N. Market St., discovered images of a marijuana plant, male genitalia, breasts and the number “420” painted on two storage silos.

11:02 p.m. An officer responded to a dispute between two brothers at a residence in the 200 block of N. Dolores Road, where, earlier that day, one brother had allegedly killed two chickens in the backyard and spray-painted them. A county judge approved an emergency protection order against the alleged chicken killer.

1:07 p.m. The Anglican Anglican Church of St. Philip, 716 S. Market St., reported that an unknown person broke a window with a rock.

7:28 p.m. A woman in the 700 block of Aspen Drive reported that a man had violated a protection order by creating a fake Facebook page in her name. The accused man allegedly identified her as “The REAL Patriot,” wrote about her residence and her daughter and added that she liked little boys.

10:59 p.m. An intoxicated man who was yelling and cussing at passersby near the Cork and Bottle Liquor store, 443 E. Main St., was arrested for disturbing the peace and being intoxicated in a roadway. He was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital and taken to jail.

9:45 p.m. A male motorcyclist with New Mexico license plates and a female passenger was pulled over near 10 S. Madison St. and arrested on suspicion of DUI, no proof of insurance, failing to stop at a stop sign and not having a motorcycle endorsement. The passenger was given a ride to the National 9 motel.

Monday, Sept. 6

11:29 a.m. A man drove into a ditch in the 2100 block of South Broadway, after, he said, he swerved to avoid a deer. No citation was issued.

Tuesday, Sept. 7

7:46 a.m. The Piñon Project reported that someone had spray-painted two of its vehicles and damaged two tables at its building, at 210 E. Main St.

8:25 a.m. A woman was cited for shoplifting less than $100 in clothing from Walmart, 1835 E. Main St.

3:36 p.m. A man traveling through Cortez reported that someone had taken $2,000 in cash from his wallet, which he had left for about 10 minutes on a gasoline pump at Maverik, 45 N. State St. Video surveillance showed a man enter a bathroom, then hand in the wallet to a cashier.

5:36 p.m. A man was cited for trespassing at City Market, 508 E. Main St.

7:15 p.m. A man who had been cited for trespass about two hours earlier at City Market, was cited for trespass at The Pie Maker, 17 N. Harrison St.

8:35 p.m. Slaven’s True Value hardware store, 237 W. Main St., reported that someone had broken a window. A man with a backpack had been spotted by a witness.

10:50 p.m. The Conoco Sinclair station, 110 N. Broadway, reported a broken window. Nearby, an officer reported seeing a man with a backpack whom he identified as the man accused of killing and painting two chickens two day before.

Wednesday, Sept. 8

9:01 a.m. The man suspected of breaking a window at the Conoco Sinclair station, 110 N. Broadway, was arrested near the Medicine Man store, 310 E. Main St.

11:26 a.m. A man trespassed from two stores earlier in the week as cited again for trespass at City Market, 508 E. Main St., and left in the custody of the Montezuma County Detention Center.

12:42 p.m. A woman was cited for breaking a window at a home in the 300 block of South Broadway after a family dispute. She was permanently trespassed from the home.

4:52 p.m. A woman was arrested on a warrant in the Walmart parking lot, 1835 E. Main St.

Thursday, Sept. 9

2:45 a.m. Officers responding to a report of a vehicle break-in in the 400 block of S. Market St. saw a man run across Fifth Street into an alley, then found him lying in a wood pile. He was was cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital for intoxication, then jailed.

9:35 a.m. A man was placed into custody at the Montezuma County Detention Center on suspicion of trespass and stealing a box of garbage bags from a vehicle in a Police Department parking space. He was found asleep and intoxicated in the 400 block of North Park St.

9:49 a.m. A man was served a warrant and cited for being intoxicated in the roadway near the intersection of Mildred Road and Montezuma Avenue.

11:50 a.m. A man was cited for third-degree trespass, violating bond conditions and disorderly conduct at City Market, 508 E. Main St.

2:08 p.m. An intoxicated man was cited for being intoxicated in a roadway at 317 E. Main St., and was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital, then jailed.

2:15 p.m. A woman was arrested on a warrant at Montezuma County Combined Courts, 865 N. Park St.

6:09 p.m. A woman reported that her children’s bicycles were stolen in the 100 block of S. Madison St.

6:35 p.m. A man was arrested on a warrant in the 100 block of West Main St.

10:08 p.m. A man was arrested for yelling and disturbing the peace near the First Baptist Church, 100 N. Market St.
