Pedestrian injured in collision on East Main Street in Cortez

Woman taken to hospital with hip and head injuries

A female pedestrian was hospitalized after being struck by a car Wednesday morning at East Main Street and Beech Street in Cortez.

Patrol Sgt. Glenn Edwards responded to the scene at 11:18 a.m. Wednesday, and reported that he observed Delphine Blueyes lying on the inside lane of the street west of the east crosswalk.

She was conscious but not very responsive, according to his report.

She was transported to the emergency room, where she was found to have multiple hip fractures, a sacral fracture, right orbital wall fracture and cuts on her head.

The Journal was unable to obtain additional medical information regarding Blueyes’ current condition Friday.

The Cortez Police Department’s incident report did not specify how fast the driver, identified as Bruce Hulligan, was going. He was in a white Nissan Altima with an Arizona license plate.

Hulligan was cited for careless driving causing bodily injury.

The driver also checked out by medics, but was not transported to a hospital.

A witness reportedly saw Blueyes walking the crosswalk when she was struck.

Police Lt. Rex Brinkerhoff, said Friday that additional information might be available later.
