The Conquistador Golf Course opened up last weekend, its earliest opening ever.
The golf course had a rush of golfers eager to enjoy the unseasonably warm weather after the course opened Feb. 6.
“With 60-degree weather, what do you do?” said Dean Palmquist, director of Cortez Parks and Recreation.
The opening of the golf course is about five weeks ahead of schedule. It usually opens by March 15.
“We have had really good turnout,” Palmquist said.
Record-breaking temperatures and lack of snow have been a boon to golfers. Palmquist said that in the past, the earliest they have opened was the first week of March.
“As long as the weather holds up, we will keep it open,” Palmquist said.
It looks like weekend temperatures will remain above normal ,with Saturday’s temperature expected to be 63 degrees.
