FARMINGTON – The Farmington Police Department is investigating a fatal car crash that occurred last week.
Farmington police responded to the rollover crash at 9:21 a.m. July 26 at the intersection of Murray Drive and Broadway Avenue, according to a news release from the police department.
According to the release, the car left the road near the right-turn lane from Broadway to Murray, traveling across a dirt lot.
“The vehicle became airborne over Murray and then rolled through a business parking lot,” the release said.
The front-seat passenger, identified as Roger Olguin Sr., 65, was ejected from the car and pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver, identified as Desiree Olguin, 39, and daughter of Roger, was also ejected from the car. She was taken to San Juan Regional Medical Center and then to the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque where she was treated and eventually released.
In an email Thursday to The Durango Herald, a police department spokeswoman said a search warrant was issued to inspect the car and speed was confirmed to be a factor in the crash.
“The Farmington Police Department encourages all drivers in the area to slow down and take their time,” the release said. “We’ve seen a recent increase in serious traffic collisions. Please travel the roadways safely and be aware of posted speed limits.”
