The Mancos Public Library has further eased its coronavirus rules, returning to an operation much like it was before the pandemic.

As of June 1, masks will be recommended for unvaccinated visitors, and there will be no voluntary symptom information questionnaire or temperature check at the front door.

Normal library hours have resumed, and the community meeting room is available for public use as well.

The library fully closed at the start of the pandemic and opened up roughly a month later to provide curbside service to patrons. An online catalog was available to browse through and new books were displayed at the building’s front window.

The library fully reopened in March for limited hours. Saturdays were for curbside pickup only. A voluntary questionnaire and temperature check were instituted and masks were required.

After recent guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and state authorities, the library’s COVID rules were largely lifted beginning Monday.

Mancos Public Library Executive Director Lee Hallberg told The Journal that policies and services like curbside pickup were useful during the pandemic.

“It’s been in constant flux since the beginning of the pandemic,” Hallberg said. “It definitely wasn’t the traffic that we see during normal times, but I think we were able to accommodate most folks for what they needed.”

The library will likely not host in-person programming such as talks or presentations until the fall.

Social distancing will continue to be recommended and spaces will be regularly sanitized.

The library will now be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Friday hours will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

It is now open to the public on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
