Red Hat Ladies hold monthly meeting

The Red Hat Ladies met recently for their monthly meeting at The Hollywood Bar with 15 members present. A fine luncheon was served, and yes, there were compliments for the cook!

The RHL meetings are social meetings only. No dues, no officers, no programs, etc.

There are friends and neighbors who have known each other for generations, and others who are newcomers to Dolores.

There is one requirement: a red hat. Beg, borrow or find a perfect one at the thrift store.

If interested in attending, call Marilyn at 882-7625 or Ruby at 882-7717.

The next meeting is planned for sometime in October.

Dolores Star reporter Tobie Baker recently garnered a competitive journalism fellowship in New York City to examine issues juveniles encounter in the criminal justice system.

The 2014 John Jay/Tow Foundation Reporting Fellows include 25 U.S. journalists from print, online and broadcast outlets. He joined reporters from organizations including NPR, San Jose Mercury News, The Baltimore Sun, Miami Herald and The Los Angeles Times as the fellowship kicked off a “Kids, Crime & Justice: Progress or Paralysis?” symposium in New York City on Oct. 5.

Baker intends to examine issues that Native American juveniles confront when caught up in off-reservation jurisdictions.
