Journal Staff Report
The Artisans of Mancos Gallery will hold a reception for its newest member, Lesya Krasnikova, a leather worker, from 4 to 8 p.m. June 15 as part of the Grand Summer Nights celebration.
After leaving the corporate professional field nine years ago, Lesya and her husband, Michael, started a home business, Sova Artisan Goods, crafting handmade leather, wood and ceramic items.
While pottery was Lesya’s original pursuit, she enjoyed working with leather and often assisted Michael with the process. Eventually, she took over the production and design. For the past six years she has been crafting both ceramic and leather goods.
Sova Artisan Goods specializes in custom design using premium vegetable tanned leather. Each item is cut, dyed, and stitched by hand with linen and Kevlar threads. Although custom journal covers are most frequently requested, Sova Artisans make luggage, bags, wallets, belts, hip pouches, clutches, artist portfolios and many other leather goods with quality and utility in mind.
Lesya and her family relocated to Mancos in March of 2019 to serve an AmeriCorps term with a local nonprofit.
