Funeral services for longtime Mancos resident Grace Marie Pickens will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 7, at Ertel Memorial Chapel. A reception will follow the service and everyone is invited to stay. Interment will take place at 1 p.m. at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Mancos. Bentley Colbert will officiate.
Grace was born Jan. 16, 1920, in Mancos, the daughter of Roger Yardley and Ada Lou (Sheek) Gibbs. She passed away at Vista Grande Inn on Friday, Aug. 2, 2013, at the age of 93.
Grace graduated from Mancos High School after attending all 12 years there. In May 1938, Grace married Charles Nolan Pickens in Aztec, N.M., and to this union four children were born. She was a member of Eastern Star, a bowling league and the Senior Citizens Center Sewing Club. Grace painted ceramics, played cards and liked to travel, especially on the Mary Kay Bus Tours.
Surviving Grace are her children, Larry Pickens and wife, Cookie, of Cortez; Gilmer Pickens and wife, Mary, of Mancos; and Karen Pickens Mathews and husband, Darell, of Mancos; grandchildren Lucky Pickens, Terry Pickens, Lorie Pickens Barber, Ronda Pickens Cox, Kurt Mathews and Kay Lynn Mathews; two step-grandchildren, Marty Conner and LeAnne Wolfe; 14 great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents, Roger and Ada Gibbs; husband, Charles Pickens; daughter, Shirley Pickens; great-granddaughter, Katie Pickens; and siblings, Elsie Gibbs Bauer, Nadine Joyce Gibbs Barlow and Delbert Gibbs.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice in Grace's name.
