Two weeks after verbally committing to play football for South Dakota State University, former Dolores High School athlete Tyler Weir signed a letter of intent on Feb. 5.

Known for his athletic ability and work ethic, Weir will look to strengthen the line of a team that finished last season ranked 13th in Division IAA.

A three-sport star for Dolores High School from 2010-13, Weir transferred to Pomona High School for this, his senior season.

One of 21 players to commit to South Dakota State, Weir will join a recruiting class that SDSU head football coach John Stiegelmeier described as "great" in an interview posted on ESPN 99.1's website.

"We were able to fill our needs with a number of student-athletes who have the ability, desire and commitment to win a championship at SDSU," said Stiegelmeier.

South Dakota State has gained notoriety as a result of its basketball program, which has qualified for the NCAA Tournament in each of the last two seasons.

Weir stated that the school's family atmosphere factored heavily into his decision to commit.

At Dolores High School, Weir participated in football, basketball and track and earned all-conference honors on multiple occasions.
