Colorado man arrested after human remains found in suitcases

DENVER – Authorities in Colorado have arrested a man police believe is a suspect in a case involving the human remains of an adult man that were found in two large suitcases near a trail in southwest Denver.

The Denver Police Department said Benjamin David Satterthwaite, 28, was arrested Friday on murder charges. Satterthwaite is being held without bail.

Online jail records do not show if he has obtained an attorney.

Authorities say crews were plowing snow from the sidewalk in the residential area of Sanderson Gulch on Dec. 29 when they discovered the suitcases. Police were then called for a medical emergency on Jan. 1 to an apartment a few miles away where they allegedly found evidence and a crime scene consistent with the homicide case.

Satterthwaite was arrested upon further investigation.

The office of the medical examiner has not yet confirmed the identity of the remains. Police believe the men knew each other.

No further information was immediately made available.
