Cortez Library will host a five-part poetry writing workshop with Elissa Dickson beginning Feb. 4.

The Journal

Cortez Public Library will host a poetry writing workshop with Elissa Dickson from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursdays, Feb. 4, 11, 18, 25 and March 4, via Zoom.

In the five-part series, participants will use poetry to explore the five elements; of earth, water, air, fire and spirit. Ancient cultures around the world – from Greece to Persia and Japan to Tibet – believed that these elements made up everything. Today, the five elements remain powerful symbols, artistically, culturally and personally.

Dickson served as the San Miguel County poet laureate from 2016 to 2019, teaching and performing poetry in Telluride. She believes writing creatively can be vital nourishment for the soul.

This is a free event. Class is limited to 12 participants per session. Preregister by calling 565-8117.
