Tuesday, Jan. 14

10:15 a.m. An officer patrolling in the 900 block of East Montezuma Avenue stopped a Toyota Camry that had an expired license plate. The male driver had been issued a protection order banning him from seeing the woman in the car. The man was arrested and left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.

5:51 p.m. An officer was dispatched to the Valley Sun Village, 700 E. Second St., about a report of theft by a caregiver who had been fired. According to an employee at Valley Sun a caregiver had been dismissed after several items from a client went missing. According to the Valley Sun employee: The caregiver had been dismissed after returning items to Safeway that were not wanted and failing to return the money for the items to a bedridden client. Also, cash back had been requested on a debt card, but the bedridden client had not received the cash. Several pieces of jewelry, including several gold pieces, were missing. The officer turned over the case to a detective for investigation.

7:45 p.m. An officer on patrol in the 400 block of East Main Street observed a man who had an active warrant. The man was arrested and left in custody of the Montezuma County Detention Center.

Wednesday, Jan. 15

12:01 p.m. An officer was dispatched to the Social Services building, 109 W. Main St., for a traffic accident. A woman was cited for unsafe backing after hitting a car in the parking lot. The cars sustained moderate damage.

12:26 p.m. An officer was patrolling in the alley behind Madison House, 120 S. Madison St., when he recognized a woman who had an active warrant. The woman was arrested and left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.

1:31 p.m. An officer was dispatched to the Market and Main streets i for a traffic accident involving two pickups, a Ford and a Chevy. A vehicle had been rear-ended by another vehicle. The Chevy driver was issued a summons for driving unsafely after she said she hit the accelerator when she meant to hit the brake, and hit the Ford pickup in front of her.

6:56 p.m. An officer was dispatched to Mildred Road and Montezuma Avenue about a reported hit-and-run incident. The officer took a report about a four-door Chevrolet Silverado that witnesses said had hit a pedestrian and left the scene. The pedestrian suffered a right pelvis fracture, a right knee fracture and a head injury. He was transported to the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque for treatment. And police began an investigation searching for the driver of the Silverado.

8:25 p.m. An officer was on patrol at Walmart when he recognized a man who had been issued a trespass notice from the store. The man was uncooperative and appeared intoxicated. After getting assistance from another officer, the man was arrested and after being medically cleared was left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.

Thursday, Jan. 16

9:12 a.m. An officer was dispatched to City Market, 508 E. Main St., about a reported shoplifting of a bottle of mouth wash. The suspect appeared intoxicated. The man was issued a summons for shoplifting and ordered to leave the property.

12:30 p.m. An officer was dispatched to the 100 block of E. First Street to take a report about a vehicle that had suffered damage to its driver’s door look while parked. The officer took photographs of the damage and filed a report.

1:40 p.m. An officer was dispatched to the 200 block of N. Park Street about a man who was unconscious and lying in the road. The man appeared intoxicated. He was in violation of two protection orders banning him from consuming alcohol. He was arrested and after being medically cleared left in custody of the Montezuma County Detention Center.

6:32 p.m. An officer was dispatched to the Montezuma County Detention Center to issue an active warrant to a female inmate.

7:48 p.m. An officer was dispatched to the 8000 block of Road 25 about a report of an intoxicated man. The suspect appeared intoxicated and had a protection order banning him from consuming alcohol. He was arrested and left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.

Friday, Jan. 17

1:53 p.m. An officer was dispatched to the lobby of the Cortez Police Department, 608 N. Park St. to take a report from a woman about a missing person, her son. Later that day, police confirmed the woman’s son had returned home.

Saturday, Jan. 18

12:09 a.m. An officer was dispatched to Walmart, 1835 E. Main St., about a reported shoplifting. An employee told the officer a surveillance video showed a man had placed a clearance bar code over the actual bar code for a jacket. The man had nine other suspicious actions recorded by the store. The officer was seeking a warrant to arrest the suspect.

3:13 p.m. An officer was dispatched to City Market, 508 E. Main St., about a reported trespasser. The man was issued a summons for trespassing and told to stay away from City Market.

5:31 p.m. An officer was dispatched to the 1300 block of Melrose Street to follow up on a reported theft. A man at the residence was found to be violating a protection order. The man was also on supervised release with misdemeanor bond conditions. The man was arrested and left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.

Sunday, Jan. 19

11:59 a.m. An officer was dispatched to the Cortez Police Department about a report of a man urinating near the front doors. The suspect was issued a summons for disturbing the peace and advised not to urinate in public.

12:11 p.m. An officer was dispatched to the 1st Street Car Wash about a man who had his pants down. A man was observed in a Dodge truck without pants with his genitals clearly exposed. A woman who reported the incident said she was disturbed by the incident and a child was in the car as well. The man was arrested for disturbing the peace. The man was taken to Southwest Memorial Hospital for a medical clearance. At the hospital he attempted to take off his pants again and he struck the arresting officer. He resisted being put in a patrol car for transport to the jail. The man was issued a summons for second-degree assault on a peace officer and disorderly conduct. He was left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.

3:28 p.m. An officer was dispatched to a traffic crash in the parking lot of Walmart, 1835 E. Main St. The officer filed a report about a Dodge pickup that had hit another car while backing up and left the scene. The owner of the pickup was located and given a summons for unsafe backing

Monday, Jan. 20

9:18 a.m. An officer was dispatched to the 600 block of Chestnut Street about an aggressive dog. A woman was issued a summons for having a dog at large.

Tuesday, Jan. 21

10:32 a.m. An officer was dispatched to 400 block of E. Fourth Street about a vehicle break-in. A man reported that his truck was broken into sometime during the night and .38 caliber snub-nose Taurus revolver was stolen from his pickup.

6:07 p.m. An officer was dispatched to Cork ‘N’ Bottle, 445 E. Main St., about a shoplifting. An intoxicated suspect resisted arrest. An other officer assisted in arresting the suspect who was charged with shoplifting and resisting arrest. After being medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital, the man was left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.

8:33 p.m. An officer was dispatched to the 700 block of South Broadway about a welfare check. A highly intoxicated man was lying in a parking lot. The man had been issued a protection order banning the consumption of alcohol. The man was arrested, cleared medically at Southwest Memorial Hospital and left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
