Eli Tomac wins 450 motocross in Pennsylvania

Rider from Cortez again sits atop series standings
Eli Tomac of Cortez won the 450 overall Saturday at High Point Raceway in Mount Morris, Pennsylvania.

Eli Tomac conquered a sloppy track Saturday at High Point Raceway to win the overall race in his back-and-forth competition with Ken Roczen for the series lead.

Tomac’s third- and second-place finishes in the two motos in Mount Morris beat Roczen’s sixth- and first-place finishes for the win, 42 points to 40. Jason Anderson was third, with second- and fifth-place finishes, for 38 points.

With the overall win, Tomac sits atop the series standings with Roczen, at 176 points each.

“It’s gonna be a barn-burner,” Tomac said of the competition with Roczen. “We’re tied now, and I’m just glad to make some points.”

“Not often a 3-2 gets you a 1st OA , but we got it yesterday!” he said Sunday on Instagram.

“In Moto 1, I was in a really good position, .. and I had, I call it a dumb tipover,” Tomac said. “I don’t know if I just got off balance or what, pushed the front end out. Luckily, we still had a little bit of a gap there.”

In the second moto, Savatgy won the holeshot but surrendered the lead to Webb. Tomac, in sixth place after the first lap, worked through the crowd into fourth place by the ninth of 17 laps. As Roczen charged to the front, Tomac got by Anderson in the 12th lap and by Webb in the 15th to race to a second-place finish. Webb, Osborne and Anderson rounded out the top five.

During qualifying rounds Saturday, Tomac was fourth-fastest, behind Anderson, Musquin and Baggett.

Tomac was satisfied with his win.

“It was the first time, at least that I can remember, getting the overall without getting a moto win,” he said on Cycle News.

The Lucas Oil Pro Motocross series next goes to WW Ranch Motocross Park in Jacksonville, Florida, on June 22 for the fifth of 12 races.
