Volunteers work on School to Farm Project

A crew of up to nine National Civilian Community Corps volunteers, all between the ages of 18 and 24, recently worked on three area School to Farm gardens for two weeks.

In Dolores for four days - 256 hours of volunteer labor - their projects included painting signs, mulching garden beds and pathways, building a small pond, building a traditional cooking oven and planting potatoes.

The Montezuma School to Farm Project's Americorps volunteer and the NCCC volunteers are managed through the same office of Americorps.

Since October, the volunteers worked in Colorado, Arizona and Missouri on projects including flood disaster recovery, said team leader Aliona Mikhed.

On Thursday, the Montezuma School to Farm Project is hosting a Service Group of 20 from Shepard of the Valley Presbyterian Church in Albuquerque. The group will be working at the Dolores School Garden Program from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday.
