The McPhee Overlook Trail (Forest Service Trail No. 155) opened for the season from the town of Dolores to May Canyon, about a mile from the trail head April 15. The remaining section from May Canyon to House Creek Campground will open May 1.

Forest Service Road 528 from the Dolores Norwood Road to the House Creek Campground also will open May 1. The non-motorized trail is approximately 9 miles long and connects Dolores with House Creek Campground and the Boggy Draw Trail System. It is open to non-motorized uses, including hiking, biking and horseback riding.

The winter closures are implemented in critical big game winter range areas. The closure areas offer herds forage, shelter, and protection from disturbance over the winter and into early spring, when the animals are most vulnerable, especially after winters conditions. The seasonal closure on this trail results from the Boggy-Glade Travel Management Plan completed in 2012.

Visitors are encouraged to stay off the trail if conditions remain muddy to reduce damage to the trail system.
