Pueblo Community College Southwest names new executive dean

Samuel “Sam” Dosumu has been named the new executive dean for Pueblo Community College Southwest. He began the position July 1.

Dosumu recently retired as the associate vice chancellor of academic affairs for the Maricopa County Community College District in Arizona.

He began his career almost 30 years ago as an instructor at Front Range Community College and has held leadership positions at San Juan College, Hawkeye Community College in Iowa and Asheville Buncombe Technical Community College in North Carolina.

He is also a Higher Learning Commission peer reviewer, traveling across the United States and consulting with colleges to improve their quality.

“Having worked in the Four Corners area from 2002 to 2008, I see the potential for PCC Southwest to be the community’s college,” Dosumu said in a news release issued by the community college. “We are positioned to help promote economic development and educational growth in Southwest Colorado. I want our community to see PCC Southwest as their college. We are here to grow with you and jointly build our community and the state of Colorado.”

Dosumu received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and computer science from Xavier University of Louisiana. He has an Master’s in Business Administration in information systems from Regis University and a doctorate in educational leadership and innovation from the University of Colorado-Denver.

Dosumu is a native of Nigeria.

PCC Southwest will host two open houses so students and community members can meet Dosumu, learn about PCC programs and register for classes. The first will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, at the Durango site, 2320 Main Ave. Enter on the south end of Durango High School by the tennis courts. The second will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, July 25, at the Mancos campus, 33057 U.S. Highway 160. Refreshments will be served at both events.

PCC Southwest, a branch of Pueblo Community College, has a main campus located between Mancos and Cortez and operates sites at Durango High School and, beginning this fall, in Bayfield.

PCC also has campuses in Pueblo and Fremont.
