Annual Dolores spring banquet is Saturday

‘Leprechaun’s Ball’ features Business and Citizen of the Year awards

Celebrate a snow-filled winter and warming weather at the annual Dolores Chamber Spring Banquet on Saturday, March 30.

The locals’ favorite costume party kicks off at 6 p.m. at the Dolores Community Center. The theme this year is “Shamrocked, a Leprechaun’s Ball.”

After cocktail hour, a traditional Irish meal including corned beef and hash will be catered by the Ponderosa Restaurant at 7 p.m. The live auction begins at 7:45 p.m. by a professional auctioneer. At 8:45 p.m., the 2018 Business of the Year and Citizen of the Year will be announced by the 2017 winners – the Dolores River Brewery and Linnea Vass.

There will be a live DJ, costume contest, a silent and live auction and lots of socializing with old friends and new ones.

“It is a really fun event where everyone dresses up and recognizes the people who make Dolores great,” said chamber Director Rocky Moss. “The Spring banquet is a cure for cabin fever, and signals the beginning of the tourism season.”

Traditional Irish drinks, including Guinness beer, will be sold out of the “Snaggletooth Saloon” at the party. Dolores River Brewery beers will also be on tap.

There are more than 100 silent auction items, and the money raised goes toward scholarships for local students and promoting the area.

”We usually raise $4,000 to $5,000 for scholarships,” Moss said.

For anyone interested, the Dolores chamber board will have its annual membership meeting before the banquet from 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Chamber president Lloyd Calvert will give an update on Chamber activities and will have some big announcements.

Tickets for the banquet after the meeting are $30 or $50 for a couple. Go to the Dolores Chamber website to purchase tickets and to donate to the silent auction.
