County votes on sheriff, coroner, commissioner

The Mancos Times and Cortez Journal will report on Tuesday's Republican primary online at MancosTimes.com and CortezJournal.com.

The candidates for sheriff were challenger Steve Nowlin and incumbent Dennis Spruell.

The candidates for county commissioner were Jim Candelaria and James Lambert.

The candidates for county coroner were George Deavers and Michael Hall.

The county tax assessor candidates were Scott Davis and Cynthia Claytor.

Three positions were uncontested in the Republican primary. Kim Percell was running unopposed for county clerk. Sherry Dyess was running unopposed for county treasurer and Earnest Maness was running unopposed for county surveyor.

Republican, Democratic and American Constitution party primary ballots were due by 7 p.m. at the sole polling place, the Montezuma County Annex Building on Main Street in downtown Cortez.

According to the Montezuma County Clerk's office, about 12,000 ballots were mailed out for the primary election on Tuesday, June 24.
