Manning logs top 3 finish at Chicken Creek

Several members of M-CHS girls cross-country team also perform well

Running under clear skies along a course that provided picturesque views of nearby mountains, several members of girls’ cross-country teams from Mancos High School, Montezuma-Cortez High School and Dolores High School performed well at the Chicken Creek Challenge on Sept. 28.

Manning leads the way for Mancos

Adding another chapter to what has been an already impressive prep career, Mancos High School junior Grace Manning again led the way for her team with a third-place finish (24:13) at the Chicken Creek Challenge.

Also cracking the top 15 for the Lady Jays was sophomore Amaris Webb, who placed 12th overall (26:24).

Other top finishers for Mancos included freshman Madilynn Ritter, who placed 20th (28:37), junior Kylie Guiles, who finished 24th (29:43) and sophomore Aspen Bumgarner, who crossed the line in 27th place (33:43).

As a team, Mancos finished fourth behind Whitehorse High School, San Juan High School and team champion Monticello High School.

“We still have a couple of girls who are working on getting healthy enough to run again,” Mancos head coach Brady Archer wrote.

“I know when they get back, they will also help as we close in on our regional race.”

Dennison paces M-CHS team

Cracking the top 10 and setting the pace for the M-CHS girls team as she has throughout much of the season was Ridley Dennison, who placed 10th overall with a time of 25:44.

Also cracking the top 15 for M-CHS was sophomore Emalie Myers, who finished 14th (26:49).

Other varsity finishers for M-CHS included sophomore Marina Bradley, who finished 18th (27:43) and sophomore Kalea Hunt, who placed 23rd overall (29:25).

Junior Anaya Martinez served as a the lone female representative from Dolores High School.

She placed 17th overall with a time of 27:39.
