San Juan Mountains Association will host a teen backpacking trip for ages 13 to 17 from Aug. 7 to Aug. 9 through the Burro Fire burn area.
Teens will learn backcountry skills as well as lessons about fly-fishing and fire ecology. The trip is designed for all ability levels, but participants will need to carry most of their own supplies. There will be side hikes, ecology lessons and time to splash in the creek.
The guide, MK Gunn, has 12 years of guiding experience and is a certified interpretive guide. Clay Kampf, fisheries biologist for the San Juan National Forest, will also accompany the group. Some free rental equipment is available.
A mandatory planning meeting will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Aug 5. There is a suggested donation of $75 per participant.
For more information, call Gunn at 385-1269 or email MK@sjma.org.
