Dolores track teams compete in Cedaredge

Schwartz, Camden Malloy, Hufman finish in Top 5

For the Dolores High School boys and girls track teams, the Cedaredge Invitational on March 31 yielded several strong performances in individual events and decent team results.

Leading Dolores on the girls side were senior hurdler Sierra Schwartz, who finished fifth in the 100-meter hurdles (17.91) and eighth in the 300-meter hurdles (53.31). Freshman standout Sydney Smith placed sixth in the high jump (4 feet, 5 inches) and eighth in the 400-meter dash (1:10.66).

Also cracking the Top 15 for the girls were Brenn Jeter, who placed eighth in the 100-meter hurdles (18.89) and Cameron Elder, who crossed the line 14th in the 100-meter dash (14.77).

The Lady Bears finished 11th in the meet’s 15-team field. Cedaredge High School finished first.

The boys were paced by Phillip Hufman, who finished fourth in the 3200-meter run (11:18.80) and eighth in the 1600-meter run (5:14.39). Camden Malloy placed fifth in the 110-meter hurdles (20.20) and eighth in the 300-meter hurdles (51.56), and Chance Wilber placed 12th in the 400-meter dash (1:00.68).

The Bears finished tied for 12th in the team standings and Cedaredge High School finished first overall.

Both Dolores track teams will return to practice this week to prepare for the Abel Velasquez Invitational in Ignacio on April 7.
